The Dan's final album, the main purpose of which seemed to be to make fans realize that this was really going to be it - they were going out of business. They are of course still performing live and since Everything Must Go, Becker has released one solo album and Fagen two.

This album is an amazing and lively melding of blues, 40s jazz, 50s jazz, roots of rock and roll, 70s R&B into a form that's fresh, new, and sassy. There's more spirit in Everything Must Go that any Steely Dan album since Katy Lied. Infectious melodies, production, and playing are.

Everything Must Go is the ninth and for now last studio album from US pop/ rock act Steely Dan. Three years have passed since their comeback album Two Against Nature. I didn´t much enjoy Two Against Nature even though it had its moments and I can´t say it´s gotten better with Everything Must Go 3/5(5).

Steely Dan is an American jazz rock band which formed in The band was formed by Donald Fagen (vocals, keyboards) and Walter Becker (guitar, bass), who met in while both attended Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, and began a songwriting partnership shortly thereafter. Their music is characterized by dark, witty lyrical narratives, obscure lyrical allusions and complex.

Steely Dan had a remarkable run of albums from through This album and the band's previous, "Two Against Nature" show that Becker and Fagen's partnership should have been "going out of business, everything must go" .such as melody, harmony, arrangements, etc. Donald Fagen's solo albums are all much better and the late Walter Becker, as on TAN shows that as a lead guitarist, he's /5().

Given the (relatively) short turnaround time between the two records, it comes as little surprise that Everything Must Go is a companion piece to Two Against Nature, and sounds very much like that album's laid-back, catchy jazz-funk, only with an elastic, loose feel -- loose enough to have Walter Becker take the first lead vocal in Steely Dan history, in fact, which sums up the Dan 's attitude in a 6/
