Aug 06,  · Nonetheless, while the works here eschew the post-Lisztian bravura of Gaspard de la nuit, the ‘Toccata’ of Le Tombeau still needs more dazzle and the last movement of the Sonatine should sound ‘Anime’ rather than careful. This is an attractive disc, but Stephen Osborne’s outstanding complete Ravel set (Hyperion) brings both poetry and 3/5.

VI: Toccata (E minor) in memory of Captain Joseph de Marliave. Ravel decided to orchestrate only four movements of this suite for orchestra, which are the Prélude (I), Forlane (III), Menuet (IV) and the Rigaudon (IV). This orchestrated version was premiered in February, by the Pasdeloup Orchestra.
